Editor’s Column: October
Here we are in the last three months of the 2010s. It’s 8 days since the equinox so in the Northern Hemisphere the nights are drawing in and the temperature is dropping. I’ve even had a cheeky singalong to Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas album – too soon?
Well, if you’re planning a trip in the holiday season, it’s not too soon at all. It’s time to start planning that visit to Santa in Lapland, saving the pennies for a ski trip and getting ready to drink your bodyweight in glühwein at a Christmas market. Or maybe you have no interest whatsoever in winter and are hoping to escape to warmer climes.
This month we’re welcoming several new contributors who are doing just that. For Sophie and her boyfriend, rainy Blackpool is a distant memory as they take us to Angkor Wat and across the border to Bangkok. Brandon and his wife are travelling the world for 16 months and sharing stories with us including climbing Rucu Pichincha in Ecuador. Marin’s first article is on the highs and lows of travelling around Sihanoukville to Koh Rong, and Tess crossed the Amazon river and learned Spanish and Portuguese as part of her slow travel experience in Colombia and Brazil.
Not forgetting our original contributors, Ellyse and Tom’s summer of van livin’ has come to a close through Croatia, Slovenia and Austria, Thom and his wife visited beautiful North Stradbroke Island in Queensland, and Brady and his girlfriend show us around Vienna and Prague.
It’s a jam packed month – join me in living vicariously through our amazing Travltalkers! x
